Inspire wonder in kids learning from home

0

With stay-at-home orders in place, parents around the world are balancing quality family time with working remotely. Many children are engaged in online learning activities and other parents are trying to find meaningful experiences for their kids while they’re away from traditional learning environments. It can be an overwhelming task to find engaging resources for students during this time of disruption – let alone ones that inspire wonder.

SAS has created an activity that students can complete at home. It’s one that will pique students’ interest in global efforts and draws from one of SAS’ core values – curiosity.

“We want students to be curious about the world around them and even find wonder in it. We hope they will do just that when they participate in the Wonder Challenge."

April 1st kicked off the SAS Wonder Challenge in partnership with Science Olympiad – a virtual competition to celebrate innovation and science in our communities. This month’s Wonder Challenge revolves around the Global Goals, asking students to “Spread the Facts” from a data story in GatherIQ.

Making a difference in the world

SAS’ commitment to the Data for Good movement led to the development of GatherIQ, a free app that focuses on the United Nations 17 Global Goals which world leaders agreed to for a better world by 2030. GatherIQ is an interactive hub for students and global citizens alike to learn, share and do more for our world. This app gives students the chance to look at the world through the lens of data and the stories behind the people that are already making a difference.

The Wonder Challenge is a great way to get students involved in the Global Goals and see data in ways that help them interpret the world around them.
